Wang Yi, Chinese Foreign Minister: Master of strategic silence

Undoubtedly being the quintessence of skilful and seasoned diplomat, Wang Yi personifies the well-known Chinese quality of strategic silence. With an excellent track record both in diplomacy and politics Wan Yi is the master every strategist must emulate. Here is how strategic silence works for him:

1. Wang Yi exhibits winning quality of calmness with charm offensive as he understands the power of silence very well. He speaks in measured tone that too after pausing for a moment of silence. Here the silence allows thought process to proceed seamlessly in an uninterrupted manner where Wang Yi discerns exceptionally well, to say “yes, no, but & yet” in convincing manner.

2. He is well-focussed and seized of the subject matter under discussion and allows his mind to speak first. This aspect spawns such expressions like “mindful silence” and “inner voice”. Put it the other way, his mind conveys to him the gist of a matter not in audible form but in a cosmic way.

3. As a keen follower of both Lord Buddha and Confucius, he allows strategic silence to strengthen his knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Often Wang Yi resorts to brief statement that contains wide connotation. As a taciturn he talks less but say more. All what he says reflect the inner wisdom combined productively with the excellent briefings he gets from his own staff in the foreign ministry.

4. Strategic silence grants him several pluses, quite a few of them are culled here for the benefit of readers:

a) He is suave and does not lose control over the situation and the people around him. He is not perturbed by the barbs thrown at him or abject criticism levelled at China as a whole

b) He is able to manage internal and external stress as shown by his remarkable finesse displayed in tete a tete with fellow diplomats, and the politicians hobnobbing around him

c) He is full of energy at any given moment.

5. Power of silence has made Wang Yi in particular and the Chinese in general extra smart because they do the homework diligently before facing an event, meeting or situation. Chinese are past masters in their futuristic knowledge as regards to how & when to enter into and how & when to exit from an operation. More than that, every move they make may appear to be of tactical nature but definitely there is strategic intent behind it. So much for the success of strategic silence Chinese have developed over the millenniums!

Cheers!
