Israel never had a strategic enemy like Hezbollah. The northern part of the country is witnessing a different type of military warfare. More than on military side the battle is morphing into a successful geoeconomics warfare that bleeds the treasury of Israel not to forget men & materials lost by her army. How come?
Hezbollah uses a measure known as “conflict escalator’ to respond to Israeli attack as well as initiating offensive operations in the North. The movement has succeeded in checkmating Jewish State. The sophisticated geoeconomics strategy involves manoeuvres chief amongst these are illustrated below:
1. Depopulating Galilee in Northern Israel as well as making occupation of Lebanese parts of territory such as Sheba farm and western Golan Heights untenable. Residents relocated away from these areas are estimated as 250,000 who were gainfully employed in agriculture & tourism concentrated in and around Galilee. Annually Israel receives more than 2.6 million tourists arriving into Galilee and her environs.
2. Sizeable population throughout the entire coastal structure and quite some from elsewhere in Israel has been called upon for duty as reservists in the army foregoing income generated by them from erstwhile employment and adding them to state pay.
3. Attack on Haifa, for example created two different scenarios. One was the burning of tanks operated by Oil Refineries Limited, resulting in major loss of existing stock and the risk of operating further. The second scenario was an attack on the Port of Haifa that denied imports of supply of critical materials especially meant for her technology industry. Moreover, it poses a big challenge to keep the supply chain functioning.
4. Agriculture the backbone of economic sustenance is very much concentrated in the north due to availability of water springing out from the Golan Heights. Tension in the area apart, Hezbollah’s ability to block water flow is indeed phenomenal.
5. To Hezbollah diamond industry is next in order of importance in the scheme of Geoeconomics warfare. Although located in the Diamond District in Ramat Gan in Tel Aviv further away from the North, lobbing of rockets into Tel Aviv is just startling. Sooner than later there would be concentrated attack on these factories leading to massive loss of these valuable items.
5. Last but not least, is the vast tunnel network of more than 100 miles running across the Lebanese border quite some of these infiltrating deep into Israel proper affords Hezbollah the ability to undertake hit & run operations to attack factories producing high-tech products.
Cheers!
