Make Russia pay

Since the end of WWII, America was preoccupied with Russia using tested strategy of “making Russia pay”. By spending profusely on defence US made Soviet Russia go bankrupt and finally collapsed in 1990.  Resulting chaos made Russia weak in political, economic and military spheres. As Russia recovered and staked her claim as superpower, Americans nurtured Ukraine to make Russia pay again.

At this point America dusted a closed file regarding what she did to West Germany in the wake of Soviet collapse. America persuaded West Germany to opt for integration with the erstwhile East Germany. By October 3, 1990 Germany took over almost half of her size of land when absorbing her eastern part. This colossal exercise cost more than two trillion Euro to German treasury and still a bleeding wound.

The war ravaged in Ukraine theatre resulted in massive destruction in terms of military and civil infra-structure, which is too colossal to be compared with what has happened so far in post WWII Europe. At least, the Soviet left lot of infra-structure behind in East Germany. This time around America wants to ensure nothing worth in terms of useful assets is left in Ukraine.

Call it scorched land policy. Leaving only the skeleton and right round destruction in Ukraine once called a s bread basket, US believes that once America and Europe decides to cut and run from Ukraine theatre, Russia has no alternative other than to absorb a useless real estate that would cost Trillions of ruble to put in workable shape let alone improve it.

Let me give you a statistic. West Germany took over East Germany of 108,875 square KM and had to spend more than Two Trillion Euro. The entire extent of Ukraine is about 603,550 square KM. The cost of Ukraine recovery would be several times more than what West Germany spent taking into considerations of the stalking inflation.

Therefore Russia would be very selective. Russia has already stated that she is not interested in the western part of Ukraine and satisfied with the land East of Dnieper River. At present Russia occupies about 165,000 square KM working out a ratio of 27% of total area.

What is the break-even point for Russia in terms of land extent and estimated recovery cost? Still it is not clear where the line would be drawn and the number of oblasts Russia would go for. Everything depends on the business strategy and geoeconomics, Russia perceive and execute!

Cheers!
